The HSE Guide to Warehousing and Storage specifically advises that employers should take steps to prevent people being injured by falling objects.
We recognise this requirement, and have developed a range of safety net and metal mesh solutions offering one of the best risk reduction systems available on the market today — installed without imposing unacceptable horizontal loads on the racking structure, protecting individuals from falling items up to 1,000kg as part of a safe system of work.
Two distinct hazards on adjustable pallet racking
- Fall-through
- Fall-out
Fall-through occurs when a pallet is incorrectly loaded onto adjustable pallet racking without any deck or other means of support — due to operator error, or an inappropriately sized pallet. The pallet falls into the bay between the beams, usually coming to rest on goods stored on lower levels, or scattering outside the confines of the racking.
Fall-out occurs when a pallet falls from the rear of a single-sided racking run, often into a pedestrian or pick aisle — commonly when a second pallet is loaded into a full location, particularly where a pallet support system such as steel mesh, timber decks or pallet support bars is in use.
RackNets solutions
RackNets offer four systems, each designed for slightly different requirements while sharing the same fundamental design and installation method: RackNets 2.3, RackNets 3.0, RackNets 5.0, and RackNets In-Flue. Bespoke systems for block-storage, tiered structures, automated systems and other storage applications are also available.
The table opposite can be used as part of a risk assessment process where a hazard of objects falling from height has been identified. Please get in touch for further guidance on selecting the right system for your racking.
